Health & Safety Policy

• Individual Accountability: Every employee is responsible for carrying out assignments in a manner that prevents injury to themselves and others.

• Leadership by Example: Management and faculty must set personal examples of safety. Rules of Conduct are absolute and must be followed at all times.

• Proactive Hazard Recognition: Staff must be alert to identifying and resolving potential environmental hazards to eliminate risks for volunteers, visitors, and students.

• Supervisory Enforcement: Supervisors and Principal Investigators (PIs) are responsible for establishing and enforcing safe practices within their specific domains.

• Consequences of Non-Compliance: Adherence to safety procedures is a condition of employment. Failure to comply may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

Training is the cornerstone of our safety effort. GJE (Pvt.) Ltd. mandates that:

• Enforced Attendance: Management at all levels must ensure employees attend required sessions, including Laboratory Safety, Radiation Safety, and Universal Precautions.

• Specialized Knowledge: Supervisors must provide specific information regarding the unique hazards associated with specialized activities (e.g., Chemical Safety or Humane Care of Animals).

• Medical Management: Our Employee Health Services provide initial management for occupational injuries. During off-hours, the Emergency Department serves as the primary resource.

• Transparent Reporting: It is the duty of every employee to report unsafe conditions to their supervisor immediately. Unresolved hazards must be reported in writing to the Research Safety Office.
